In the field of diabetes treatment, Novo Nordisk has been the world leader in diabetes research and drug development. It has always adhered to the ideal of "changing diabetes” and developed drugs for the treatment of diabetes one after another. After years of efforts, Novo Nordisk has developed Liraglutide— a new generation of drug for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

Liraglutide is a once-daily human GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) analogue that not only provides excellent glycaemic control but also delays disease progression. Liraglutide delivers sustained reductions in HbA1c, significant improvements in beta-cell function, meaningful reductions in systolic blood pressure and lasting reductions in weight.

Now Phase III of the clinical trial project of Liraglutide —LEAD™ has been completed. The project consisted of six randomized, controlled and double-blind clinical trials held in more than 40 countries, involving more than 4,000 patients with type 2 diabetes. It is the biggest and most comprehensive clinical trial project on type 2 diabetes. Studies on LEAD ™ show that Liraglutide has an excellent efficacy in glacaemic control, improvement of beta-cell function as well as weight and blood pressure reduction. Novo Nordisk believes that Liraglutide will inaugurate a new era in type 2 diabetes with its unique treatment mechanism and excellent efficacy.
