Who can apply ?

Any scientist with a PhD degree (or equivalent) and with formal employment at CAS (applicants must hold associate professorship or above) or NN may apply. The above scientist can also apply on behalf of a PhD student or a young PhD working in his/her laboratory for a PhD or a post-doc fellowship. Applications should preferably be jointly submitted by a scientist from CAS and one from NN R&D. Other parties, e.g. universities in Denmark and Sweden, may be partners in selected projects but will then need to fund their own participation.

How to find a partner? 

A CAS applicant can identify a NN partner through following ways:
·Visit NN website (www.novonordisk.com) for a list of potential NN scientist partners (e.g., within the protein field) and their key interests;
·Look for publications co-authored by NN scientists;
·Contact Dr. Bøoslashrge Diderichsen (BQD@novonordisk.com) or Dr. Baoping Wang (BAOP@novonordisk.com ) with a request to find a suitable NN partner for a project of interest to CAS;

·Submit an application without a NN partner and requesting that the NN-CAS Research Foundation Board, if the project is considered fundable, assist in identifying a suitable NN partner.

A NN applicant can identify a CAS partner through following ways:
· Visit CAS website for biosciences and related research institutes or university and find a suitable partner;
·Look for publications co-authored by CAS scientists;
·Contact Dr. Ming-Wei Wang  (wangmw@mail.shcnc.ac.cn) or Ms. Dongyao Wang (dywang@cashq.ac.cn) with a request to find a suitable CAS partner for a project of interest to NN.

Funding 

NN-CAS Foundation may fund or co-fund selected projects, with a maximum of 250,000RMB/year for up to 2 years, to CAS scientist. NN scientists will not receive any funding from the Foundation, but may ask NN for supplementary funding. Possible third parties (e.g., universities) will normally need to contribute with some co-funding.

How will the application be processed and evaluated?

Applications must be prepared on a special Application Form.  The application will be evaluated by NN-CAS Research Foundation Board by following criteria:

·Scientific merit;
·Relevance to the project categories;
·Feasibility (including but not limited to the applicant’s competency in the proposed field, additional funding from other sources to carry out the study).

When the decision will be made and announced? 

The selection and the decision will be made c. 3 months from the application deadline. The decision will be sent to each applicant by e-mail. The titles and recipients of the selected projects will be announced on the CAS website and on NN China websites (www.novonodisk.com.cn). The recipients will receive a notification letter as well as instructions about administration of the fund.
